The year is 1999 and Stompin Tom has come home for the Welcome Home Celebrations in Tignish. At the conclusion of his show, spinster twin sisters, Aunt Bernadine and Aunt Eileen Doyle, are all atwitter as Tom has accepted their invitation to come to their house for a little party after the show. Driven by their desire to find out which sister is Tom’s favourite, they battle for the legend’s attention. Meanwhile, their niece, Samantha Doyle, a newly graduated journalist, is determined to squeeze a juicy story out of Tom to make her mark. Tom does have a protector, luckily, in the form of the sisters’ nephew, Hubie Hackett, an Irish mosser who is also the self proclaimed police presence. Will Tom stick around his Stompin Grounds or hitchhike off to better, and saner, horizons? Join us for a chef prepared meal and find out!

Quotes from Erin…

“For this year’s show, I really wanted to focus on the strength of Tom’s relationships with people. He really was a loyal friend to many. I talked with Karen and Floyd Keefe over the winter about Tom’s special devotion to Freda Keefe, who passed away at 104 this winter. I was also saddened to hear of the death of his dear friend John Farrington and parts of this show are a testament to that kind of friendship. If only we could all be so lucky to have a friend like Tom.”

“My Stompin’ Grounds has a slightly different feel to My Island Home. The stories are different, most of the songs are different, but the feeling, I hope, is the same. Tom had a fierce love for Canada, Canadians and especially the people of Skinners Pond. Anyone, from any part of the world, will love this show, but this show also has a special tip of the hat to Skinners Pond and its people.”

“Someone once asked me, why don’t you write a serious play about Tom? After all my research, one thing I have learned for certain: Tom loved to laugh. He had his serious moments, to be sure, and was an exceptionally deeply spiritual man, but like all deeply spiritual people, he knew the value of great and hearty laugh.”
